Kreuzberg is a part of the combined Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg borough located south of Mitte. Since 2001, Kreuzberg is one of the best-known areas of Berlin. Kreuzberg is sometimes described as consisting of two distinctive parts - the SO 36 which is home to many immigrants, and SW 61, roughly coterminous with the old postal codes for the two areas in West Berlin. It was only formed in 1920 by a group of Jewish settlers. Its name, which literally means cross hill, refers to its point of highest elevation, which is 66 m above sea level. The hill is a traditional place for weekend trips and features small restaurants.
